We are working closely with a leading MGA as they look to recruit a Technical Director for their Commercial department. Required to contribute to the development and delivery of the departmental and overall Group strategic plan. Manage and control the development activities of the Commercial team to ensure profitable growth in line with strategic objectives.

Reporting to the Managing Director : Commercial, the main activities and tasks will include:

• Supporting operations and administration of Board by advising and informing Board members, interfacing between Board and staff.
• Sets and agrees the Commercial UK Underwriting footprint and pricing strategy with the Commercial Managing Director.
• Engages effectively with relevant capacity providers to maximise commercial new product proposition and earnings
• Collaborates with the Managing Director to define and articulate the organisation’s vision and implement the Commercial strategy to achieve financial income and growth objectives.
• Contributes to the development of the overall commercial insurance customer proposition.
• Contributes to the technical knowledge of the Company by feeding back technical and commercial market intelligence.
• Promotes a culture that reflects the organisation’s values, encourages good performance, and rewards productivity.
• Ensures that staff and board have sufficient and up-to-date information.
• Undertakes training in line with agreed objectives and keep up to date with technical, legal and market developments.
• Evaluate staff performance on a regular basis.
• Delivers profitable income growth through all distribution channels.
• Achieve revenue targets via personal engagement with stakeholders and team.
• Leads and effectively monitors risk and policy decisions and processes.
• Implements robust capabilities working closely with business partners, risk technologies and vendors to deploy and enhance risk and policy capabilities.
• Establish and maintain a clear and appropriate apportionment across the team of responsibilities to ensure that monitoring systems exist and the FCA compliance is achieved.
• Evaluates in-place systems and procedures and streamline where appropriate.
• Evaluates technology implementation and optimise within budget constraints.
• Evaluates and control travel, entertainment and discretionary expenditures.
• Carry out any other ad-hoc duties that are relevant to the job and that are reasonably requested by the Managing Director
• Stays abreast of current trends related to the organisation’s products and services and anticipates future trends likely to have an impact on its work.
• Collects and analyses evaluation information that measures the success of the organisation’s program efforts; refines or changes programs in response to that

Required skills and experience:

• A proven track record in commercial product portfolio management (non-motor and motor), forging and managing successful business development and retention via multiple distribution channels within a commercial environment or other similar functions within the financial services industry.
• A proven track record in delivering successful pricing and risk strategies.
• Experience in new product development.
• A high degree of strategic awareness/capability.
• Experience of leading teams.
• Demonstrated Analytical Problem Solving and Ability to perform data analysis independently.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Demonstrable leadership skills acquired over a 5 year period through managing teams/situations.
