I am currently recruiting for an experienced Sales Manager based in Manchester who would cover the north of England for a FMCG orgnaisation.

The job holder has responsibility and accountability for the effective management and sales development for all branches in their area. They will have worked in a similar retail position and ideally have experience working within the FMCG, Food or Drinks. They seek an individual with appropriate retail experience and knowledge, able to combine technical and managerial skills and apply them with flair.

The Area Sales Managers need to consistently meet deadlines and adopt a flexible approach to working hours.

This is a challenging and rewarding role, critical to the achievement of business objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Achieve overall sales and profit targets by developing and implementing the necessary plans and performance review criteria.
• Working with branch managers, control stock losses and personnel costs to target and manage costs and resources efficiently.
• Manage cash flow at branch level effectively by establishing stock level targets and regularly monitoring the management of working capital, pre-empting and/or reaching to variances as appropriate.
• Be committed to developing branch manager and staff resources by identifying individual and team training needs, driving and shaping manpower planning activity and effectively managing performance through frequent coaching, motivating and disciplining if required.
• Continually strive to develop the Brand images and sales to ensure correct and timely customer focus.
• In addition, the Brand requires a commitment to ensure up-to-date product knowledge.
• Area Sales Managers are charged with co-ordinating brand rollout activities to
• deadline and implementing Company initiatives effectively, including merchandising programmes to deadline.
• Ensure that branch teams consistently maintain required standards with reference to health and safety, legal obligations, budgets, sales, manpower levels, security, systems and necessary procedural documentation. Review working practices often to maximise efficiency and eliminate waste.
• Actively work to identify new sites and prepare profit forecasts for sites identified for conversion to a brand, managing the involvement of other functions and communicating with interested parties as appropriate.
• Operate a ‘Customer is King Philosophy’ and set a particular example to inspire direct reports in this respect, responding to all customer complaints and communications professionally.
• To ensure that repair requests and/or instructions are actioned effectively by selecting the most appropriate Contractor.
• To ensure the proper operation of the Company’s Regional contractors via management review meetings and regular monitoring of reports.
• Inspect samples of work undertaken for the Company to ensure that the correct standards are maintained.
• Strictly adhere to the budgets with no overspends.
• To be responsible for all Operational and general maintenance Health and Safety matters, ensuring compliance and providing Head Office with recommended actions, costs and implications in respect of major repairs
• Fast, but effective decision making is the key to this role, as is the ability to manage competing priorities.

KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Previous management experience within a retail operation, preferably multi-site.
• Food Retailing experience.
• Ideally holder of WSET qualifications.
• Confident interpersonal skills, able to provide leadership, build team spirit and coach staff to achieve targets.
• Positive approach to problem solving and to take decisions quickly, balancing risks and opportunities.
• Exercise foresight to plan ahead correctly and focus on the optimum use of resources within agreed budgets.
• Hold a clean driving license.
