My retained client, a civil engineering business based in South Yorkshire are looking to appoint a dynamic HR Director for their 1400 employee strong organisation. As a business, they work across a national infrastructure specialising in significant and essential contracts across the rail and engineering sector.The Human Resources Director has overall responsibility for the companies HR and Training strategy.
In this pivotal role you will also contribute to overall company strategy and policy making by advising the board on the human resources implications of its decisions.
Ideally you will have gained significant HR experience within the Civil Engineering sector.
Main responsibilities:
Overall control of the human resource function
Formulating HR systems and strategies appropriate to the companys corporate mission and goals
Overseeing the recruiting and selection of staff
Developing remuneration and reward procedures
Keeping the board informed on HR and employee-relations policies, as needed, to preserve and facilitate company strategy
Planning and directing employee training and development programmes
Improving management/employee communications, including mediating in disputes and advising line managers on how to implement personnel policies
Ensure compliance with current employment law.
Some significant projects to lead on will include:
Employee engagement, which is good but could be better
Performance management across all businesses in the group
Talent management and succession planning
Occupational Health & Wellbeing Lead
Education and experience:
To complement the existing Senior HR team, in a multi-million pound turnover business, the Human Resources Director would normally have the following level of competence:
Degree level education
Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development or equivalent qualification
Substantial and broad experience in appropriate human resources work
This is a complex and fast moving business, extensive project driven across a significant number of sectors, where the clients work is essential and large investments are made.
The attitude within the Senior Management is very Can do, will do, done it. What is in place at the moment works, works very well, but it can always be improved.
The culture of the business is very empowering. Processes are efficient and robust.
Although the Human Resources Director will undertake specific projects on behalf of the Managing Director, Group activities may require HR input which you will be a key stakeholder.
