 Senior Insurance Risk Officer – Location  - London City or Kent – Flexible Working Available

Our client is a Leading UK regulated Insurer who has been trading for over 100 years with offices in the United Kingdom and globally.  They have a position for a Senior Risk Officer in either the London City office or from their office in Kent

Overview of the Position

To support the development and implementation of the risk management governance framework and related policies and guidelines, so that our client has an appropriate framework to support the appropriate and timely identification of risk issues. To provide oversight, guidance, and challenge to business activity in relation to operational risk and control assessments. To effectively manage and lead the Risk team to meet business needs and provide technical guidance, assistance, and training to new and existing staff.  

Responsibilities

·         Certified Key Function Holder for risk

·         Work with the Chief Governance Officer to develop and implement the departmental business plan

·         Work collaboratively with the business to develop company capability around risk governance and decision processes aligned with our client’s risk strategy

·         Manage the ongoing maintenance of the risk management framework and enhance this where appropriate

·         Manage the risk review process which includes the review of internal controls, emerging risks, loss/near miss reports and risk scoring

·         Prepare risk reports/ORSA dashboards for the Board/Risk Committee

·         Assist in the ongoing development and management of the ORSA process

·         Conduct regular qualitative stress/scenario tests on strategic, insurance, credit, liquidity, market and operational risks

·         Provide and undertake analysis of Management Information to identify trends, risks and root causes and work with the business to bring about operational improvements

·         Identify and escalate situations where internal controls are not adequate, ineffective or risk policies are not being followed

·         Review risk related policies and where necessary propose modifications based on new developments eg change in regulations, business plans, the external environment

·         Provide administrative and risk governance support for the Risk Committee

·         Conduct research on industry leading practices for risk governance matters pertaining to the insurance industry

·         Travel to other UK, Europe and international offices is a requirement for this role

 

Personal Qualities

·         Proven risk management experience, including knowledge of risk management governance and controls

·         A strong understanding of Solvency II and proficient with the ORSA process

·         In depth technical knowledge of UK and EU regulatory requirements

·         An in depth knowledge of FCA, PRA and ICOBS regulations and guidelines within the insurance industry across a range of geographies

·         Strong analytical, research, judgement and decision-making skills

·         Ability to work independently, organising own time effectively and in the face of changing priorities

·         Effective negotiator and influencer

·         Helps to develop and implement new ideas and approaches for the team

·         Effective project management and report writing skills

·         A willing and co-operative team player who builds rapport with colleagues and clients

·         Flexibility to adapt as the role continues to evolve

·         The ability to effectively communicate in all forms at all levels within an organisation with tact and diplomacy and balance differing interests
