I am currently recruiting for an experienced HR Manager to join an organisation in South Buckinghamshire.

The successful candidate would be working for a fast-moving, technology-based, Retail & Distribution business. The role reports to the Director of Human Resources and provides for the execution of day-to-day HR Operational matters. The position requires hands-on communication and implementation of existing HR Policies & Procedures to colleagues throughout the Group, as well as the onward development and refinement of such Policies.

In particular, the role is required to streamline Induction processes for new colleagues and to ensure that Appraisal processes are reviewed and regularly applied for the effective assessment, measurement and performance of colleagues across the business.

This is a 1 year fixed term contract with the intent of the role becoming a permanent position.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assists the Director of Human Resources to ensure that all HR Policies and Procedures are up-to-date, legally compliant, fit for purpose, operational and being applied in an effective manner across the Group, acting as a senior representative of the HR Department.
• Provides necessary information and reports on data such as staff numbers and turnover, colleague dynamics, all employment costs, training records, personnel records, etc.
• Provides day to day advice to Line Managers on all Human Resources issues, including Policies and Procedures, management of staff, Disciplinary & Grievance matters, remuneration packages, etc.
• Deals with all Performance, Disciplinary or Grievance issues in a legally compliant and professional manner through liaison with our preferred Employment Lawyers.
• Ensures all Job Descriptions are kept up to date, creates new JDs as and when necessary to ensure that all colleagues are clear as to what is expected of them.
• Provides advice and administration of maternity and paternity leave cases. Responsible for resource planning for maternity re-joiners.
• Ensures all staff Appraisals are relevant, timely and conducted in accordance with Group and Company Policy. Registers and monitors Probationary periods for all new colleagues.
• Ensures that all training and development needs are identified, through input from business heads. Manages all approved training schemes, records and costs to budget.
• Ensures that the skills and abilities of new recruits meet the needs of the business, in-line with Competency and Budget controls. Uses Recruiters and Agencies on our approved PSL, (Preferred Supplier List), drafts briefs, manages interviews and completes hiring processes.
• Monitors and records all Holiday and Sickness absence through ensuring that Line Managers take responsibility for the attendance of their staff. Takes corrective action where Company Policy and Procedures are not adhered to in this regard.
• Assists in developing and reviewing Departmental succession plans in conjunction with Departmental Heads.
• Assists in any Redundancy, Divestment, Acquisition & TUPE consultations/discussions.
• Assists in the management of Payroll activity, including accurate recording of Company and HR records in accordance with set timescales and deadlines.
• Manages Occupational Health referrals & provides pastoral support and advice to colleagues.

KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• CIPD qualified, with proven experience in implementing & maintaining Human Resources Policies & Procedures within a fast-moving, high-technology business environment.
• Previous track-record of building strong working relationships and driving HR strategy in an approachable and effective manner within a commercial business.
• Ability to quickly establish credibility and respect in all HR matters, building strong working relationships with Managers and Colleagues alike. Demonstrable maturity, professionalism and gravitas.
• Ability to both take the lead and to work within a team, actively supporting and developing team members, quick to identify and problem-solve any issues.
• Act as a role model for the HR Department and organisation in general. Provides HR advice and works with others in a collaborative and solutions-focused manner to achieve win-win outcomes
• Able to work under pressure and to deadlines. Flexible to adapt to changing priorities whilst finding effective and pragmatic solutions to new situations or problems as they are presented.
• Ability to react to differing personalities and behavioural styles in order to work collaboratively with a wide variety of people in meeting the HR needs of the business.
• Provides support to the Director of Human Resources and other senior managers through the timely delivery of HR information and plans.
• Has a practical working knowledge of Employment Law and the initiative to escalate HR matters to the Director of Human Resources where appropriate.
• Commercially aware, with an ability to resolve HR problems and provide support to Managers in a pragmatic way, following informed investigations and an evidential approach.
• Good time-management skills and an effective planner. Anticipates problems, plans for worst-case and best-case scenarios.
• Experienced in using Simply Personnel™ or other HR Software systems to best advantage. Accuracy of record-keeping is essential and must possess an excellent attention to detail.
