The Company

A world leader in the design and Supply of specialist capital equipment, this successful European group provides process know how to major process plants on an international basis. With a strong order book and increasing demands for their services in the emerging markets, they require a highly competent procurement professional to join their team.

The Role

The Engineering Buyer will provide a first class procurement service to the company with the aim of buying goods and services on time, of the right quality and within budgeted costs. Negotiating and securing “best” deals with regard to bought-in products and services.

Key Responsibilities

• Preparation of shopping lists and enquiry documentation.
• Issue enquiries and ensure timely receipt of offers.
• Evaluation and clarification of commercial and price offers from suppliers.
• Work with the technical resources within and outside the company to understand and interpret relevant design drawings in order to specify and quantify the goods and services required by the company in the execution of its duties.
• Lead negotiations with suppliers and agree contract terms and conditions of purchase ensuring the company’s exposure to risk is minimised.
• Completion of the necessary checks on suppliers financial standing etc.
• Co-ordination of other discipline input to vendor review and selection.
• Ensure milestones are agreed for suppliers and coordinated with customer.
• Supplier selection and order placement.
• Liaise closely with Parent company for major items and to take advantage of group buying power.
• Strategic sourcing of suppliers.
• To keep the company’s systems up to date and operating in such a fashion as to aid and improve upon the effectiveness within the company.
• Manage and coordinate the maintenance and improvement of the company offices and any temporary site buildings.

Personal Specification

The successful candidate will:

• Ideally have a good solid knowledge in the engineering sector.
• Strong communication skills.
• Be a team player.
• Working knowledge of negotiation techniques and relationship management.
• Preferably have professional training or membership to CIPS, but must have a minimum of 5 GCSE’s to include Maths and English.
• Proficient in data handling and a strong attention to detail.
• Previous experience of working closely with engineers as part of the technical team would be an advantage.
• Candidates with German language skills will also be an advantage.
