PROJECTS MANAGER - PROCESS CONTROL SYSTEMS

Cameron James Professional Recruitment are recruiting a Projects Manager to join its Process Control Systems team in Middlesbrough.

Due to the company’s expansion, they are looking for a Projects Manager to join its team in Middlesbrough. The Projects Manager will be in managing a wide range of control systems projects including PLC, SCADA, distributed control systems, and industrial safety systems.

The successful candidates will have completed either a computer, instrumentation, controls degree, or gained extensive industry experience. A professional project management qualification such as APMP or Prince2 would also be advantageous to the role. You must have experience in successfully managing a significant control system project.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• You will be responsible for managing the design and implementation of process control systems and all project lifecycle activities, including fault-finding, the preparation of design specifications and reports, software programming, project execution, testing, installation and commissioning.
• You will be in charge of managing and developing the process control systems engineering team in Middlesbrough. This will include all project activities and also the engineer’s motivation, assessment, mentoring, training and career development.
• You will work closely with senior members to develop your engineers, in order to achieve the best utilisation of your team.
• You will be responsible for the management and approval of all tasks carried out by the engineers including timesheets and cost expenditure.
• You will be accountable for the cost control of all projects and/or sub projects under your remit, to ensure that expenditure falls within the limits agreed with the Company Directors.
• You will be required to work with the finance team and manage the invoicing for the projects that you are accountable for.
• You will be responsible for maintaining and developing customer relationships in a highly professional manner.
• You will also be required to complete all tasks in line with the company Quality Management System.
• You will also be required to offer proactive support and assistance to the sales and marketing team, to ensure the growth and development of the process control business area.
• You will be required to maintain an up-to:date technical understanding and share your knowledge and expertise, both internally and externally, by reading articles, attending seminars and courses, and interacting with customers and colleagues.
• You will also ensure that all relevant procedures, guidelines and working practices reflect the latest industry best practices.
• Other responsibilities will include providing technical support and consultancy to users internally and externally, and assisting your team in ensuring the successful completion of projects on time, to budget and the relevant level of quality.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

• An understanding of the financial, technical and personnel aspects of successful project management and project delivery is essential.
• You must have experience in successfully managing a significant control system project.
• You must be capable of planning tasks in a controlled manner, producing Gantt charts using MS Project and be able to communicate the plans with project team members.
• You must be competent in coding at least one of the following PLC, DCS or SCADA systems and have sufficient practical experience to be able to work with other types of systems, as dictated by project requirements.
• You won’t be expected to configure and code these systems, however your knowledge and experience will be required to manage the projects and train and develop your team members.
• Confidence in the use of PC based office systems such as Microsoft Office suite and MS Project packages is essential.
• You must show an awareness and understanding of commercial and legal obligations including applicable regulations e.g. Health and Safety.
• You must also be capable of gaining access to the specific terms and conditions that affect these obligations and interpreting these correctly.
• You will be required to possess negotiating skills and have the personal presence to represent the company at all levels, externally and internally, formally and informally, establishing confidence and respect both for the function represented and as an individual.
• Good documentation and communication skills, planning and time management are essential for this role.
• You must be capable of managing the production of all documentation relevant to your area of responsibility, including sales proposals, project reports, testing documentation, user requirement specifications and other complex reports.
• You must possess the breadth and depth of experience to be able to contribute to policy making within the company. This will cover all areas of the company’s operating processes and will include technical matters, procurement, staff development and rewards, methodologies and standards, marketing and selling of the company’s services and products.
