Cameron James Professional Recruitment are working with a public sector organisation who are looking to appoint a HR Advisor to provide an efficient and effective HR advisory and support service seeking advice from the HR Operations Manager or external sources as appropriate.Responsibilities:
Provide advice and guidance to managers and staff on the full range of HR issues, including disciplinary, grievance, performance management, bullying and harassment and probation issues.
Ensure the HR system and other computerised/manual records are kept up to date
Undertake project / research work. Draft and revise employment policies, procedures, employee handbook, HR manual, HRIS processes and template letters.
Contribute to the development of the HR Team service and assist in the delivery of the HR strategy.
To manage the recruitment and selection cycle including:
To conduct pre-employment checks for all new employees moving roles within the organisation
To draft and issue contracts of employment and send to the new starter with appropriate forms to complete.
To up-date the HRIS with new starter details and notify the Payroll team accordingly in line with payroll deadlines.
Manage casual, temporary and agency employee administration
Monitor and consult with employees on fixed term contracts and arrange meetings to end employment as necessary.
Attend performance/sickness/disciplinary meetings to take notes and provide advice and guidance to the managers.
Assist in managing short term/long-term sickness and ill health capability issues, liaising closely with managers at all times
Calculate annual leave entitlement for new starters and employee changing terms and conditions.
Advising employees on all family friendly processes and undertaking all the administration as appropriate.
Assist in the management and monitoring of probation periods in accordance with the Probation policy.
Produce monthly KPI information
Person Specification:
Attainment to A Level standard & GCSE in English and Mathematics.
CIPD qualification (part or fully qualified)
Previous HR experience working at an Advisor/Officer level.
Experience of working with key HR processes such as recruitment and selection, absence and performance management, disciplinaries, grievances and family friendly processes.
Experience of dealing with, and influencing, managers.
Experience of working with confidential information.
Experience of providing a customer focussed HR service.
Ability to demonstrate a understanding of Employment Law
Ability to demonstrate a can do attitude and professionalism in your role.
Ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and HR systems
Numeracy skills : to be able to work with figures calculating salaries (minimum GCSE grade C in Mathematics)
Car owner/Driver
To have a common sense approach and able to work independently, using own initiative
Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines
Ability to work as part of a team
Ability to demonstrate a high level of understanding of Employment Law
